WoW Mining Guide

Gathering professions are a great way for making WoW gold. All throughout Azeroth and the Outland you'll find many resources which can be gathered by the various gathering professions, which then can be used to craft all sorts of useful equipment. Mining is the gathering and smelting of various ores, minerals and gems which can be used by Blacksmiths for creating powerful weapons and armor, Jewelcrafters for a variety of useful gems which can be placed in socketed equipment to add additional stats, or Engineers who can craft all sorts of quirky gadgets which can sometimes turn the tides of a battle. Because the mining resources are used by so many other professions, if you chose to just sell all your gathered minerals and ores, you'll be rolling in WoW gold in no time.

The easiest way to find a Mining trainer is to talk to a guard in one of the major cities (Orgrimmar, Stormwind etc.), they will point you to the nearest trainer. Upon receiving training you will start out as an apprentice and will only be able to mine the lowest level minerals and will have to work your way up.

The following is a list of the skill levels, the metals you will be able to smelt and the ores needed in order level up your mining skill:

Apprentice mining 1-75:

-copper (copper ore)
-tin (tin ore)
-bronze (copper & tin bar)

Journeyman mining 50-150:

-silver (silver ore)
-iron (iron ore)

Expert mining 125-225:

-gold (gold ore)
-steel (iron bar & coal)
-mithril (mithril ore)

Artisan mining 200-300:

-truesilver (truesilver ore)
-dark iron (dark iron ore x8)
-thorium (thorium ore)
Master mining 275-375:

-fel iron (fel iron ore x2)
-adamantite (adamantite ore x2)
-eternium (eternium ore x2)
-felsteel (fel iron bar x3, eternium bar x2)
-khorium (khorium ore x2)
-hardened adamantite (adamantite bar x10)

After completing a certain skill level (EX. apprentice mining), the mining trainer will generally tell you where to go next to further your training.
